Peter Gordon Thompson - Contemporary Furniture Make in Maine

'an artist with an incredible love for designing and building chairs and stools’

Peter’s love for working with wood was sparked in the early 1980’s when he created his first piece as a student at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine.  He has since filled homes with his handcrafted pieces of functional art - unique earthy lines inspired not only by his intense love for Maine’s natural beauty but also greatly influenced by the various African and European cultures in which he grew up.

Best in Show

Peter established his own business after gaining experience through working with two of the most accomplished furniture makers on the East Coast. Before long, his distinctive work had been recognized by his peers as well as collectors from California to Rhode Island.  His pieces have been selected for some of the most prestigious exhibitions, shows and publications.

Green from start to finish

Aware of the importance of conservation Peter’s approach and technique lessen the environmental impact: from the wood acquired at lumber yards that practice sustainable woodlot harvesting to the finishing process using the time-honored practice of applying linseed oil and paste wax by hand - thus creating a product that is “green” from start to finish.

Peter’s creations can be stand-alone works of functional art highlighting a prestigious place at home or in an office environment, or form part of an imaginative dining or meeting room setting.
