Jamila
means beautiful in Arabic. Peter feels that this one word is a
perfect fit for his studio chair. The chair’s design is
stunningly different and assembly calls for the mixing of three wood
species that work together in one piece. The front legs and
wedged-shaped crest, which is sandwiched between the upper part of the
back legs, are made from zebrawood. The back legs are Black
walnut and the seat is shaped by hand from a beautiful slab of
Koa. From previous experience Peter has seen where Black walnut
and Zebrawood compliment each other in a chair. With the Jamila
studio chair he has added a Koa seat to enhance this combination.
The addition of Koa will make this chair stand out like a small gem in
any living space. Koa after it is oiled has gorgeous grain depth
and looks very similar to the semiprecious stone Golden Tiger
Eye. As you move around the chair light reflects off the seat at
different angles giving you what seems to be a continuously changing
grain pattern imbedded in a deep, rich, golden background. This
chair is Jamila!
Peter
also hopes that by looking at this chair, customers can have a sense of
the options they have when it comes to incorporating wood
that they find attractive into one of Peter’s functional art
designs. In this way a customer can truly individualize a
Thompson design.
Cost $850 (Shown with a Koa seat $1,000) |
